Friday Reflection April 10, 2020

Wow, it’s been four weeks since the national emergency of covid-19 was declared. My mind is blown because it simultaneously feels like it’s been forever but also like it’s only been a few days and this will all be over soon. Definitely taking it one day at a time, and living in the present more than ever.

I’m so thankful I got to see my dad before lockdown. He came to visit Anna and I for a few days to hang out and see the house. I knew it was a special visit at the time, but now it feels priceless. My parents live in Southern California, so while it’s not that far, it does feel further away than it ever has.

At the start of all this, our oldest and smallest cat, Big, hurt her paw so we took her to the vet. It was a whirlwind how a hurt paw went to finding out she had a kidney infection about a week later. The antibiotics seemed to be helping at first, but then by the end of the treatment she had not improved. We took her back to the vet and due to circumstances beyond our control, we had to put her down. It was extremely hard to be at home with a sick animal, but overall it was a blessing we got to take care of her and give her lots of love and quality time. Big was the first cat we adopted together in 2009. She’s a bengal with a huge personality, so it’s definitely been quiet around here with out her. Anna, Big + Boat (our other cats), and I miss her a lot, and are overall just glad for all the years we had together. RIP Big 3/31/2020, we think she was about 15.

It’s definitely been hard to focus on work. I had my last photo session before my dad came to visit and now everything is on hold for the foreseeable future. Thankfully I had a wedding and some portrait sessions to edit, so those kept me busy. I’ve mostly just been taking photos around the house and of Anna’s cooking. Anna’s an amazing chef, so having a creative outlet of capturing her creations and being able to eat it after is a bonus.

I want to take a moment and send love to all the couples who have had to reschedule their wedding due to this. Planning a wedding is hard enough, to have to change your special date to sometime in the future when there is so much uncertainty is even harder. My heart goes out to you! I’m so thankful to my clients and couples who have rescheduled and are working with me on finding a new date. When we finally get to celebrate love together in person again, it’s going to be epic, and I CANNOT wait to capture it all.

Today I am choosing to focus on the good. The quality time with my boo, having our home and our health, and being able to take photos + stay creative through all this. Here’s a glimpse into our quarantine life. Be safe, be well, stay home! Much love

Lots of plants and cats.

Some of the final photos of our baby Big.

Moody light and flowers.

Quality time with Anna has been my favorite. She’s been drawing and watercoloring, and I’ve enjoyed documenting it. Our plants are doing amazing, and watching them grow little by little each day is an absolute gift. I didn’t include any food photos in this post because my last 5 blog posts are all Cooking with Anna and you should check them out!

I hope you’re safe, happy, healthy. Feel your feelings, but also focus on the light, the joy, and the good that comes with each day. I know some days are super hard and feel bottomless, but your feelings are valid. I hope we all come out stronger because of this.

So much love and hugs! xoxoxox
